Job Opening: Digital Engagement Specialist

6-month contract, with possibility to develop into permanent position

republicEn, a project of the Center for Climate Change Communication at George Mason University, is seeking an experienced and creative Digital Engagement Specialist to advise and construct a comprehensive strategy for our engagement, marketing, and recruitment efforts.

The Opportunity

At republicEn, we’re conservatives reaching conservatives on climate change. Our mission is to unlock Republican leadership on climate through the activation of conservative constituencies on the ground, on the web, and over the airways. We believe in the power of American free enterprise to deliver the innovation needed to solve the problem. We believe meaningful and durable climate action requires bipartisan coalitions only possible with conservative leadership.

We are the only right-of-center organization in America whose primary focus is climate advocacy among the right-of-center grassroots. We provide a home for conservatives who care deeply about climate change — the “EcoRight” — and who often feel alienated from advancing their views on this hyperpolarized issue.

We view the dearth of conservative grassroots advocacy as the most limiting factor to American climate leadership. Lawmakers in Republican jurisdictions tell us that they seldom hear from conservative constituents about climate change. This is where republicEn comes in. Since 2012, we have been working to activate right-leaning environmental advocates to step up and speak out.

The Role

The Digital Engagement Specialist will take the reins of republicEn’s online strategy, with two main goals: 1) Build out a powerful strategy to engage our community members and create opportunities for them to take meaningful action, and 2) Grow the size of our community and our digital presence to strengthen our impact.

The Specialist will help run all things related to digital engagement for the organization: online advocacy campaigns, social media, digital ads, and content creation. They will contribute to webinars and improve the organization’s website.

The ideal applicant is someone who is exceptionally competent, detail oriented, and tech savvy. They are comfortable collaborating with a small, remote team. They are an outstanding communicator, both written and spoken. They are passionate about growing the EcoRight movement and in tune with conservative viewpoints and culture. They are fun to be around.

This is a remote position that can be based anywhere in the United States. After 6 months, the Specialist may be invited to apply to be a permanent employee.

Areas of Endeavor:

• Engage our members through compelling communication and online action campaigns
• Build a comprehensive social media strategy; Construct creative social media campaigns and posts; Oversee social media advertising
• Grow republicEn’s online presence, including improving and maintaining our website
• Work with republicEn digital team and other staff to organize powerful online events (e.g. webinars, virtual discussion panels) that recruit and bring new voices into our network
