TGIF, Happy Easter, Happy Birthday to the three people I know with birthdays today… This weekend will find me playing tourist in DC, showing around a high school friend and her daughter. Hoping for good weather and a panda sighting (within the confines of the Zoo, of course).

This week’s must read: Climate Change is supercharging pollen and making allergies worse (BBC)

Are you, like me, finding that each season, your allergies get worse? Check this out:

As temperatures rise, many regions – especially the US, Europe and Australia – are seeing seasonal allergies affect an increasing proportion of peopleover a longer season and with worse symptoms, say scientists.

This year, in the US, pollen levels are predicted to be higher than the historical average across 39 states this season. And that is only likely to get worse in the years to come, experts warn.

If you need to read more (you do… if only to read about thunderstorm ashtma), check out the article here.

EcoRight Speaks, season 10, episode 9, featuring Jonathan Leonard, founder of The Sludge Hub

I love meeting someone randomly, which is how Jonathan Leonard came to be on this show. The founder of The Sludge Hub, a shared work space (so to speak) for abandoned mine lands restoration, he had reached out to me to share opportunities to join them for an “externship” (tune in to hear more) and I thought what he is doing sounded cool. Tada!

I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed talking to him!

Coming up next week, my conversation with Evan Patrohay, a blogger, ACC volunteer, and conservationist for the state of South Carolina.

Quote of the week

“Let’s put a ‘what-is-best-for-the-country’ hat on.’”

Senator (insider info: I almost wrote Congressman…) John Curtis, in his defense of the Inflation Reduction Act.

EarthX 2025

Are you going to be in Dallas next week for the annual EarthX conference? If so, come and see me! My panel will be part of the Women’s Summit on April 22nd at 1:40 local time. I will also be recording an episode of the podcast from EarthX, so if you are not local to Dallas or in town for the event, I hope to be able to share some of the flavor of the event.

Planet Forward Summit

Just call me the Summit Queen. It was such an honor to participate in this year’s Planet Forward Summit in the keynote discussion about how to have respectful conversations on climate change when opinions differ. I was joined by Hattie Hobart from the newly launched group Nature is Nonpartisan and the panel was moderated by journalist and George Washington University professor Jesse J. Holland.

After the discussion, I was pleased to have time to catch up with Dan Reed of Mason 4Cs fame and to connect with some adoring fans (omg did I just write that?).

H/T to Angela for taking the screenshots as she streamed the event! Yes, I always talk with my hands…

Happy Easter!
