republicEn executive director Bob Inglis and contractor KC Mullen met with Florida State Rep. Monique Miller back in March.
Dear EcoRight Supporter,
Three Zooms with Florida State Reps in May have me looking forward to what KC Mullen, our champion Florida contractor, will do for us in June and July.
Back in March, KC arranged a number of in-person meetings for me with Florida State Reps and Senators. Some of KC’s intendeds were unavailable. Undeterred, she sought Zoom meetings. Three of those happened in May, and another is coming up in June. The three in May were tremendously encouraging: Rep. Fiona McFarland (R-Sarasota), an impressive U.S. Naval Academy grad; Rep. Anne Gerwig (R-Wellington), a former Mayor of who knows all about tipping fees and who understood the connection to tipping fees for the trash dump of the sky; Rep. Dana Trabulsy (R-Fort Pierce), a conservative ready to search for free enterprise solutions to climate change.
We advance our long-term federal goals by engaging with State House and Senate members. They give currently serving federal office holders the freedom to lead on climate. They can support Sense of the State resolutions, asking federal officeholders to act. They’re the farm team that may end up in Congress.
The key for federal and state office holders is getting to their constituents. That’s why I’m especially excited, too, about KC arranging three Rotary Club speaking opportunities for me in Florida in July. We find that Rotarians are institutionalists who skew a bit right of center. They’re deep in their communities and very committed to service. Those are the folks that we need to engage on climate.
Thank you for making all of this possible. We wouldn’t be able to have KC and other state contractors doing this work without your support.
Gratefully yours,
Bob
Community Outreach & Engagement
When tech fails, community delivers
Sometimes, it takes a little technical hiccup to remind us how lucky we are to be surrounded by such an incredible community. When our recent webinar with Alex Trembath—Climate Politics in an Age of Inflation, Invasion, and Supply Shocks—didn’t record as planned (despite us hitting that ever-important red button!), we figured the moment was lost. But then, something humbling and heartening happened: one of our supporters, Wayne M. from California, stepped up and saved the day. Not only had he recorded the webinar on his own, but he even edited the video and shared it with us so others wouldn’t miss out. It’s moments like this that remind us we’re not doing this work alone. We’re surrounded by a community that shows up, has our back, and lifts us up when we stumble.
Thanks to Wayne, you can watch the webinar recording above!
Podcast
As we head into June, we will wrap up the tenth season of the EcoRight Speaks and five full years of podcasting as a tool to reach the EcoRight. We are excited that the last full episode of the season will feature former Senator Bill Frist, who is on the board of The Nature Conservancy and has been speaking publicly about the connection between health care and climate change. But in May, we had some fascinating guests too, including sustainability thought leader and professor Bob Eccles and the Chief Science Officer of LanzaTech, Zara Summers. Rounding out our May guest roster was a team episode.
