In a debate earlier this week, in response to questioning on climate change, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) said Congress should “pursue policies that will not raise our energy prices.” She further pointed out the need “to find a balanced approach to tackle our long-term environmental issues while protecting our domestic economy.” Stefanik, who opposes the Clean Power Plan, expressed concern with “the lack of [carbon emissions reduction] enforcement with other developing countries around the world.” She specifically called out China and India as examples. “We need to ensure that they’re also pursuing environmentally-friendly policies,” she added.
Stefanik is a co-sponsor of the so-called Gibson Resolution, which recognizes the impact of climate change and calls for Congressional action to reduce future risk.
