Residential solar has a number of barriers to entry, one of the biggest being cost. But what if you could run to IKEA, buy a portable panel that plugs into your home, and immediately save on power bills?
That future is coming.

Everything happens at once, right? Whether rain (thanks, April), taxes (thanks, April), birthdays (how do I know so many April birthdays, including 3 friends on the same day), sometimes it feels like we are being inundated.
Which is why I’m ready for vacation… (Also happening in April… more on that later.)
In this bipartisan episode, State Reps. Drew Darby and Erin Zwiener, joined by Patricia Zalava of PowerHouse Texas, all key leaders in the state’s energy and climate policy, delve into what makes Texas so special, how renewable energy has been able to rise above partisan rancor, and how other states can follow The Lone Star State’s example.
Hello, gentle readers. Coming at you today from the great state of Oregon, where by the time you are reading this, I will have heard my son make his undergrad thesis defense and we are probably celebrating! I’m so proud of what he’s accomplished in four years; it’s truly an honor to be his mom.
his week’s knowledgeable guest comes to us from the Niskanen Center. Rachel Levine, the Senior Transmission Policy Analyst for Niskanen Center’s Climate and Energy team, gives us a quite digestible deep dive into transmission policy in the U.S. which, spoiler, is kinda crazy and sorely in need of updating and streamlining if we as a nation expect to meet 21st and 22nd century needs.
Good Friday. Right? When is a Friday not good? But in particular this one is great because I am ready for carrot cake (no raisins, please) and all the deviled eggs on Sunday. My kids might not be home to color Easter eggs anymore but that doesn’t mean I can’t decorate them!
What if climate policies could increase your health and your wealth? It would be a no-brainer that the U.S. would go hard on implementing those solutions, right?
Well, they do! Which begs the question, why don’t we lead with these facts when talking about climate change?
This episode’s guest tackles that very question.
This weekend I was supposed to be in Florida, bidding a final goodbye to my childhood friend who passed away in November. A small gathering of us planned a sunset beach excursion, convening at one of her favorite places. There were lots of plans… combing the beach for seashells (her favorite activity) and ocean themed friend tattoos.
This episode’s special guest is no stranger to the show. Reverend Doctor Jessica Moerman is a climate and environmental scientist, pastor, educator, and advocate. She serves as the President and CEO of the Evangelical Environmental Network and is a Board Member of the National Association of Evangelicals.
Are your daffodils blooming? I swear, my yard is the LAST on the block to get the sunny blooms, but I am thankful my neighbor has hundreds of cheerful flowers with staggering bloom time so there’s something to see all season long. The greenery popping up is really brightening my mood and hope it is yours, too.
Were you one of the listeners who requested Niskanen Center be featured on the show? If so, congratulations!
This week’s (super fun) conversation was with Liza Reed, Niskanen’s Director for Climate and Energy. An expert in High Voltage Direct Current, electricity transmission, and technology innovation, she worked on strategic initiatives for the Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office, including permitting and financing for electricity transmission.
We blinked and the middle of March is here. I’m thinking about it being Friday the 13th (good luck!) and the Ides of March, all in one tidy weekend. And let’s not forget St. Patrick’s Day next week! Oh, and March Madness is (truly in many senses) here!
