So you know last week how I had planned a hiking weekend in the Shenandoah? Well the rain had other plans for me… it was still restful, still nice to spend unscheduled time with friends, but my pursuit for the perfect autumn-hued summit experience continues!

And now, the EcoRight news…

This week’s must read: Montana should borrow Texas’s energy playbook (The Miles City Star)

Straight from two of our all-time favorite members, Larry Howe from Texas and Alex Amonette from Montana, comes this gem of an op-ed.

“Though we’re not next-door neighbors, Texans and Montanans have a lot in common. We share a love for country music, steak, and hunting. ‘Everything is bigger in Texas’ nods to the state’s epic geography—perhaps only rivaled by the vast horizons of Montana’s ‘Big Sky Country,’” they write. “Now, like neighbors comparing notes over the fence line, we want to share how the Texas way of doing energy could be transplanted—and be well suited—for Montana.” (We applaud a cross-state collab by our members!)

Readers, you can take it from here to read the ways that Texas has strengthened its energy plan and how Montana could follow.

She’s back…

I love a good reunion… which is what this episode has in store.

For years, political strategist, writer, friend Mary Anna Mancuso was a staple at republicEn.org. Guided by her talented pen, her op-eds were published over 100 times in multiple media outlets. She understands the importance of conservative climate communications and wrote various pieces about solutions to climate change.

Two years ago, she took a full time gig at the Miami Herald on the Editorial Board, which curtailed her ability to write independently. We were super excited for her, but sad for us because we lost our regular reliable messenger on the issues we hold dear. Well folks, she’s back.

While the circunstances (media outlet downsizing) are less than ideal, we will make lemonade by having her resume her writing role.

That and more in today’s episode.

Coming up next week, ICYMI, I’ll be sharing the audio portion of our Florida Climate Week panel, featuring Florida water quality experts (and past podcast guests) Nicole Kirchhoff and Brandon Shuler. It’s a fascinating conversation on the importance of water to the economy and the environment, as well as climate change’s impacts on water in the Sunshine State.

Congress to Campus: Bob visits Ithaca College

Last week, Bob Inglis traveled to New York State to participate in the Association of Former Members of Congress’s flagship program, Congress to Campus. The theme of his visit was civil dialogue in the age of climate change.  Joined by his former colleague, Democratic Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, they participated on a panel, toured campus and dropped in for classes.

“The wonderful thing about being in Congress … is just this mission and purpose that you have every day,” Bob reflected. “I get to continue that now with a mission and purpose [about] the vital issue that I think we face, and so I’m glad to be about it.”

For more on their two-day visit, check out the campus paper’s reporting.
