If I saw a black cat cross my path today, I’d probably try to lure it home and adopt it. I have kittens on the brain, probably because I promised Fang (14 years old) that she could live our her dotage as an only cat. But I have friends who have accidentially found kittens and I can’t believe that in all my decades of being a cat lover, this has never happened to me.
On that note, Happy Halloween!
This week’s must read: The most conservative thing we can do about climate change? Adapt. (Miami Herald)
It was a treat (no tricks here) to read Mary Anna Mancuso’s first climate-focused editorial as a member of the Miami Herald editorial board. And as an added bonus: her piece features our friend, Alex Flint, who recently co-authored an 0p-ed in the Wall Street Journal with Kalee Kreider.
“Recently, I’ve been encouraged during discussions with local candidates to hear them — on both sides — acknowledge the need for resilence planning,” Mary Anna writes. “While there may be disagreement on how to tackle it, few deny adaptation to a changing climate is necessary. That’s a win in my book.”
In case you can’t access the Miami Herald due to the paywall, The Invading Sea also published it.
From the WSJ opinion piece Alex and Kalee wrote:
“The climate movement has long feared that talking about adaptation would signal defeat. But adaptation isn’t surrender—it’s survival. Many people will find the economic imperative to adapt and become resilient more compelling than the moral imperative to mitigate.”

Worried about the EV market? Fret not!
If you’re worried about the EV market in the U.S., this episode is a breath of fresh air! No zombie EV market in our future!
After feeling deep regret I didn’t buy an EV before the tax credit expired and worrying about widespread adoption of EVs, recording this episode was a breath of fresh air!
Aaron Viles is the senior director of campaigns at the Electrification Coalition, where he develops and directs campaigns to advance state and federal policy for transportation electrification. Aaron manages the Electrification Coalition’s campaigns teams and priority policy portfolios, as well as developing and maintaining governmental, corporate, and NGO relationships for the organization. Aaron has launched the Veterans for EVs program, building a network of former American service members with professional EV industry connections.
I feared this conversation was going to be an obituary for EV adoption in the U.S. but Aaron’s optimism, grounded by facts, is infectious.

Coming up next week…
Perhaps you have noticed that talk of fusion has been hot. Here to breakdown what fusion is and why it’s a hot topic is my old friend Andrew Holland, founding CEO of the Fusion Industry Association.
Quote of the week
“We fix climate change by fixing the economics.”
Our own Bob Inglis, speaking to students at the University of Georgia Sustainable Business and Economics Societies this week about free market solutions to climate change.

Congrats to Senator John Curtis and Benji Backer
We were pleased to see Senator John Curtis and ACC/Nature is Nonpartisan founder Benji Backer both make the TIME100 list of climate leaders in 2025.
“At a time when few Republicans in Washington will even utter the words ‘climate change,’ Utah’s Sen. John Curtis has made an embrace of the issue a defining feature of his tenure on Capitol Hill,” journalist Justin Worland writes. “During his four-term stint in the House of Representatives, in 2021 he founded the Conservative Climate Caucus to create a space for Republicans to talk about the issue and potential conservative-aligned solutions. And he has elevated conservative approaches to the issue in Washington D.C. with an annual Conservative Climate Summit.” Curtis was recognized in the Leader category.
Benji founded Nature is Nonpartisan earlier this year, after previously founding American Conservation Coalition. He was honored in the “defender” category.
Also spotted: 2 other podcast guests, Bob Keefe of E2 (leader) and Ari Matusiak of Rewiring America (defender). Who on the list would you like to hear from in season 12?
On that note, I’m off to bougie candy-cheese-wine pairing Halloween!
