republicEn executive director Bob Inglis was a guest speaker at Vero Beach, Florida’s Oceanside Rotary Club.

Dear EcoRight Supporter,

The first day of July brought two more Zooms with Republican members of the Florida State House. The Zooms were arranged by KC Mullen, our Florida contractor. Both Reps displayed a surprising level of engagement.

The first Rep talked to me for over an hour. I kept giving him opportunities to end the call with “You’ve got plenty of things to do,” but each of those from me was met with a “No, let’s talk.” He may have been trying to talk himself out of the fatalism that says that we can’t address climate change; we can only adapt. On the other hand, I may have been hearing a new type of climate rejectionism: “It’s too late; oceanic and melting-permafrost methane emissions mean that sea levels are going to continue to rise. There’s nothing we can do about it. Just build sea walls.”

The second Rep was eager to talk, too. He’s a Trump enthusiast, but one of his children serves in the Navy and has been talking to him about climate change and sea level rise. He wanted to know about solutions on offer. He’s thinking of running for Congress in 2026.

Additional Florida Zooms are coming in July, along with three in-person presentations to Florida Rotary Clubs and a trip to Iowa. These follow a productive June that included two DC days featuring meetings with U.S. Senator John Curtis (R-UT), U.S. Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE2), and staffers for U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA1), and U.S. Rep. Erin Houchin (R-IN9).

The headlines are about the reconciliation package and the demise of clean energy incentives. Beneath those headlines, we’re picking up on some right-of-center anxiety. Midterms are coming, the borrowing continues unabated, and the water is coming up. Maybe that’s why Reps are willing to talk. Thank you for making it possible for us to engage with them.

Onward,

Bob

EcoRight Voices: Grounded, Principled, and Engaged

Thanks to your support, republicEn continues to give voice to conservatives who care deeply about climate and are grounded in market-based, limited-government principles. In our latest member poll, responses reflected frustration with the political status quo—but also strong support for solutions that align with conservative values. As one member put it, “We need to make this issue a Republican talking point. Energy independence and self-reliance are core values.” Others echoed the need to remove red tape and let innovation lead: “Solar energy, coupled with battery storage, is such an obvious solution. We need the government to get out of the way—permitting reform is sorely needed.” Many voiced support for smart economic tools like a carbon fee and dividend, border-adjusted tariffs, and empowering entrepreneurs to drive change.

Stay tuned as we continue to collect poll responses and create a full report. Click here if you’d like to take the poll yourself.

Podcast

The highlight for June, as we wrapped up season 10, was our conversation with former Senator and Majority Leader Bill Frist, who currently serves as the global board chair at The Nature Conservancy and is well-versed in the connection between public health and climate change. After wrapping up season 10 and nearing 200 episodes, we are in full planning mode in July, lining up our initial suite of season 11 guests.
