Appearing on Fox News Sunday, former Senator Rick Santorum defended his earlier remarks on Pope Francis’ encyclical on climate change. Santorum previously said the Pope should “leave the science to the scientists” and focus instead “on theology and morality.”

Commentator Chris Wallace questioned why Santorum should talk about the issue and the Pope shouldn’t. Santorum argued that politicians “have to make decision with respect to our public policy that affect American workers.” He added that the Pope “can talk about whatever he wants,” but it might not be the best issue for him to “use his moral authority for.”
