Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson said “civilization thrives” in warmer temperatures and that “we will adapt” to a changing climate. “Climate has already changed, always will. I’m just not an alarmist,” he said in a recent interview. “How many people are moving up toward the Antarctica, or the Arctic? Most people move down to Texas or Florida, where it’s a little bit warmer.”

“Obviously, man affects the environment, and we should do everything we can to maintain a clean environment, but you need an affluent society. You need a strong economy,” he continued. Last week, Johnson rejected the title ‘climate denier,’ saying “I’ve never denied climate change.” He also said the “jury’s out” on climate science and questioned the accuracy of modeling, which “hasn’t panned out yet.”

Over the summer, Johnson claimed the climate hadn’t warmed and compared climate solution advocates to Stalin and Chavez.
