Due to a “dismal planting-progress report,” the Senate Agricultural Committee convened last Tuesday to discuss the nexus between crop harvests and climate change; remarkable as the party controlling the Senate was thought to be one of climate denial.

Fred Hoefner of the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition admitted that a meeting of this nature hadn’t occurred since Democrats controlled the Senate in 2010. A myriad of agricultural issues were discussed, and while this meeting loomed relatively low on the radar of Congress, it certainly represents progress with climate realism and the GOP.
