On the day Pope Francis made his historic speech to a joint session of Congress, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he disagrees with the pontiff’s position on climate change.

“I think that clean air is a pressing problem,” Trump said on the CNN program New Day. “You want to have clean air, clean water. That’s very important to me, and I’ve won many environmental awards.”

“I’m not a believer in climate change,” Trump added. “Look, it’s weather and it’s been that way for so long.”

Trump contended the U.S. should not “imperil the companies in our country” with policies to combat the problem. “I don’t think we can destroy our country.”
