This week’s must read: Trump administration can tackle climate change by going after China (Sun Sentinel)
H/T to Angela Larck for finding this op-ed co-authored by Florida State Rep. Toby Overdorf and Florida State Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez about carbon tariffs.
“For decades, our own trade policy has enabled foreign polluters to operate under loose standards and thereby maintain an advantage against American businesses,” the write. “Instead, we ought to reward United States businesses for their innovative practices with trade policies that hold foreign polluters to the same standards. Such changes would bolster domestic manufacturing, generate good-paying jobs and reduce dependence on imports from China and Russia.”

This week’s season ten guest comes to us via a listener request. Journalist Mike Conley is the co-author (with Tim Maloney) of the book Earth is a Nuclear Planet. Fascinated by science since he was a child, Mike was drawn to the ingenuity, simplicity and safety of the Molten Salt Reactor. To learn more, he became a member of the Thorium Energy Alliance, a close-knit community of MSR advocates. His approach to the brainiacs he’s met through the TEA is simple: If they explain their technology to him, he’ll explain it to the world. Or in this case, to our listeners. We’ll also hear what inspired him to write this book and what is coming up next for those looking to learn more about nuclear power.
Coming up next week, my conversation with the co-founder of Rewiring America, Ari Matusiak to talk about electrification.
But hey, you can hear me in the hot seat
My publisher just launched a podcast and invited me to be one of their initial guests. Check it out and if you don’t already have a copy of Glacial: The Inside Story of Climate Politics, well… what are you waiting for?
Last night we had a riveting webinar talking about the scientific consensus on climate change with Skeptical Science founder John Cook, a senior research fellow with the Melbourne Centre for Behavioral Change at the University of Melbourne. I know I learned something, and you will too!
Readers, it’s not too late to register for the second part of the series, scheduled for Thursday, Feb 27th when we explore how best to communicate the scientific consensus on climate change and challenge misinformation.
As the sun sets on this day and this work week, I wish you and yours a peaceful weekend. TTFN!
