Republican Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, a vocal supporter for climate change action, highlighted in his eighth and final State of the City address the severity of the climate-related impacts the city is experiencing.
Climate change is “the biggest challenge the city of Miami will ever face,” Regalado said. “The city of Miami is one of the most exposed assets in the world to climate change and sea level rise.” He is recommending a ballot initiative in November for $100 million to fight climate change and sea level rise. He is retiring in November and made this recommendation to future leaders.
“This is an issue that cannot be prolonged anymore. We have to start workingall of the departmentsbecause if not, our children and our children’s children won’t have the magic city we so enjoy,” he said.
