Former Hewlett-Packard CEO and surging candidate Carly Fiorina took on California Gov. Jerry Brown on Meet the Press yesterday, after host Chuck Todd suggested scientific evidence pointed to climate change exacerbating the state’s five-year drought.

“You know what’s also made it worse?” Fiorina responded. “Politicians. Liberal politicians who stood up for 40 years, as the population of California doubled, and said you cannot build a new reservoir and you cannot build a water conveyance system. And so for forty years, 70 percent of the rainfall has washed out to sea.”

Todd responded by playing a video of Gov. Brown refuting Fiorina’s assertion that California’s water policy contributed to the drought.

“It makes no sense what he just said,” Fiorina shot back. “It would be helpful…to have water saved in the good years so you could use it in the bad years.”
