In an opinion piece running in the Des Moines Register on July 2nd, Iowa Bishop Richard E. Pates of the Des Moines Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church called for presidential candidates to take Pope Francis’ challenge to have “open and honest conversation” about climate change.

“As presidential candidates make their way across our great state during the political caucus season, we want them to be part of the conversation too,” Bishop Pates wrote. “An honest conversation acknowledges that humans are causing much of the recent climate change.”

Iowa’s first in the nation caucus is scheduled for February 1, 2016.
