It’s Heat Wave August, with heat advisories today covering about 150 million of us in the U.S. Easily my least favorite month of the year anyway—with the exception of the very last day, which is my dear sister’s birthday—it’s only getting worse thanks to climate change. It’s no wonder Congress adjourns for the month!

Speaking of adjourning, I’m off to Boulder, Colorado this weekend for my baby brother’s wedding. But I will be back pronto because it’s a very big week next week…

This week’s must read: Experts Share Climate Change Concerns As Election Looms (Forbes) Marhsall Shepherd, a friend of republicEn.org and a leading international expert in weather and climate, gathered feelings from leading climate stakeholders, including our own Bob Inglis.

Bob had this to say:

“I fear that polarization will keep us from seeing the solution that works for both conservatives and progressives: untax payroll income; tax CO2 instead; apply the tax to imports via a carbon border adjustment mechanism. The world will follow our lead because they’d prefer to collect their own carbon tax rather than forking it over to us at our ports of entry. All around the world, greener, cleaner products will be cheaper than dirty products made accountable, and free enterprise will deliver innovation at speed and scale.”

A CHANCE TO WIN: Tickets for Seize the Initiative!

Calling all Salt Lake City members, the first person to reach out to me has a chance to win two free tickets to Seize the Initiative, a one-hour family-friendly romantic comedy at Trolley Square in SLC, part of the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival. Written by Yoram Bauman, the world’s first (only?) stand up economist, the play is running this weekend. And you could score two tickets to the Sunday, August 4th show at 3pm.

Ready, set, email me back, Utah!

And with that, I will see you next week, when I will officially be a published author! Have a good one. And buy my book!
