Dear EcoRight Supporter,

A year ago, I was at Winthrop University for an event organized by Ben Byrd, a Winthrop student. I was so impressed with Ben that we recruited him to be our South Carolina Outreach Liaison.

Armed with a spreadsheet that he’s developed with over 200 prospects for meetings and speaking opportunities in SC, Ben is on a roll. In the month of February, Ben booked 5 meetings with local GOP/conservative leaders, 2 interviews with conservative podcasts/radio shows, and yet another speaking opportunity for me at Winthrop that involved over 60 students.

So far in March, Ben has arranged yet another conservative podcast, 2 meetings with local GOP officeholders, 2 Zooms with County GOP Chairs, a Zoom with the leadership of Moms for Liberty, and a speaking opportunity with the Young Americans for Freedom chapter at North Greenville University.

Ben warms up the cold calls/emails on his spreadsheet with relentless optimism and consistent courtesy. As one of the GOP leaders said to me with a smile, “That fella you’ve got working for you sure is persistent!”

Ben is persistent because he realizes that climate is the challenge of his generation. He’s also doing well for himself in our pay-for-performance liaison compensation system. That’s good for him, good for us, and good for the cause. It wouldn’t be happening without your help, so we thank you!

Onward,

Bob

Building the Strategy for What Comes Next

Each year, the republicEn team gathers for a multi-day planning session to step back from day-to-day work and focus on the bigger picture: where the conservative climate conversation is heading and how we can most effectively engage it. This year’s discussions centered on a message of American dynamism—the idea that the United States can lead the global energy transition through innovation, free enterprise, and competition, particularly as China races ahead in clean energy manufacturing.

For the first time, we were also joined for part of the meeting by leadership from the George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication, the organization that houses republicEn. Dr. John Kotcher and Dan Reed contributed valuable research insights and strategic perspective as we reviewed our outreach efforts, from targeted state engagement and growing event networks to the digital platforms where conservatives are most active. These planning conversations help ensure that republicEn remains focused, nimble, and ready to seize opportunities to bring more right-of-center voices into the conversation about America’s energy future. Not pictured but also part of the meeting was republicEn co-founder now turned advisor, Alex Bozmoski.

Podcast

Season 12 is moving full steam ahead! We launched our latest season at the beginning of February, kicking off with the biggest fan of the EcoRight who doesn’t self-identify as EcoRight, thought leader and author Bob Eccles. He just published his latest book, An American’s Guide to Climate Change: How America Can Lead and Prosper, which we then awarded three free copies of to listeners who wrote in with a future recommendation for the show.

The month continued with “friend of the pod” Nick Huey on what makes Utah conservationists special, Ross Matzkin-Bridger, Senior Advisor at the Nuclear Scaling Initiative, on the near-term prospects for nuclear energy, and John Kotcher, the newly minted director of Mason 4C and a valuable ally of republicEn.org.

In March, we are featuring Sam Lovall, author of Mud Lake and advocate of getting outside in nature to help build a conservation ethic; Alex Flint, discussing “what’s next” for carbon pricing (spoiler: is there a pathway that also shores up social security?); Dr. Rev. Jessica Moerman on how the Evangelical Environmental Network is working in local communities on the issue of data centers; and more great voices sharing their expertise and passion.
