Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, speaking in Iowa on Wednesday, softened his previous criticism of Pope Francis, whose encyclical on the environment and human ecology will be released on Thursday, June 18th.

“I think Pope Francis is an extraordinary leader of the church whose teachings I try to follow,” Bush. “It doesn’t need to get any more complicated than that. That’s why I go to Mass. I don’t go to Mass for economic policy or for things in politics.”
