Louisiana State Treasurer John Kennedy, who is running for the state’s vacant Senate seat in a race to be decided in a December run-off election, indicated he believes the globe is warming but that the reason in inconclusive. However, he said that when it comes to climate solutions, “the problem has to be addressed with market-based solutions rather than government.” Toward that end, Kennedy said he supports “energy conservation, nuclear energy and encouraging technology to burn clean burning coal.” He is opposed to cap and trade and does not support a carbon tax. “If it’s such a swell idea, let China go first.”

Kennedy did not indicate which market-based solutions he supports.
